Ach, Matthew! [Kurt can't keep the excitement from his voice.
At least, when he breathes a sigh of relief, it's perfectly timed-- right when Matthew cups the phone and turns to shout at his friends. He can hear them all quite clearly, actually, considering the inducer doesn't hinder any of his natural mutant enhancements, which makes him cup a hand around his face to stifle his laughter.
The darker-haired teen doesn't need to see Matthew to know that he's grinning, though. That makes his own lips quirk.]
It's okay, [he reassures.] Well, I was going to ask if you were busy, but from the sound of it ...
Huh? No, no, [ Matthew laughs. ] I think we're about to wrap up.
[ Not really, though Matthew sounds perfectly sincere because he's not telling a deliberate lie. It's just that he'd rather talk to Kurt than return to the group. They're cool and everything, but Kurt is Kurt. ]
Some of the guys were teaching me how to play hockey.
Oh, [he begins, still sounding a bit unsure.] Okay, if you say so!
[But there's a quiet sigh of relief and Kurt smiles, reaching his free hand up to ruffle through his two-toned bangs. He's none the wiser when it comes to Matthew fibbing a little about his activity, but he has no reason to question him.]
Was it fun? You know, I've never even been ice-skating. [He scoffs, like he's disappointed with himself.] Anyway, do you think I'd be able to see you today? I have something really amazing to show you.
I'm not very good, [ Matthew admits cheerily, with zero trace of embarrassment. ] But ice-skating is real fun. Once you get the hang of it, it's like-- gliding.
[ That's exactly what it is, but Matthew sounds pretty pleased with himself for coming up with such a good description. Kurt won't make fun of him for saying something dumb, anyway.
He perks up. ]
Oh, yeah, I wanna see! What is it?
[ Any chance to see Kurt makes him happy, but it sounds like Kurt has something especially exciting to show him this time. ]
That's okay, [Kurt reassures, regardless.] Maybe we could go together sometime? Gliding sounds like a blast.
[As soon as Matthew says he wants to see, he livens up a bit more himself.] It's, uhm— [There's obviously some hesitation. He wants to tell him so badly; he also wants the inducer to be a total shock.]
Well, I want it to be a surprise! If you're too excited, I suppose I could show you over the phone.
[Yes, his tone is absolutely teasing when it comes to that last comment.]
